"I highly recommend Dalchini’s afternoon tea to Local Mums. The Indo-Chinese finger food and wide-ranging teas on the newly-launched afternoon tea menu at Dalchini restaurant in Wimbledon adds an inspiring dimension to the classic cream tea.  I loved their fresh take on the traditional afternoon tea (which can sometimes be bland and disappointing) launched to celebrate Dalchini’s 25 years as London’s first Indo-Chinese restaurant. The usual afternoon-tea sandwiches are replaced here with in-house created varieties of Indo-Chinese inspired sandwiches and finger food in the lovely setting of their landmark restaurant opposite Wimbledon Park station. The fresh and delicate seaseme prawn toast served with sweet chilli sauce and crispy chilli garlic paneer served with mint chutney were outstanding and we tried Chamomile Flowers Egyptian tea and Rooibos - Rooibos Kalahari South African tea, which were ideal compliments. This all comes with the best of the traditional cream tea for those with a sweet tooth - in-house freshly baked cakes, muffins, scones, jam and Rodda’s Cornish clotted cream - and of course a glass of prosecco for £7.95 if the delightful teas don’t tempt you. It really is the perfect blend!”

Indo-Chinese cuisine traces back to the late 19th century when Hakka Chinese migrants settled in Kolkata, India. The Huang family opened the first Chinese restaurant in Kolkata in 1920, serving tiffin boxes to Chinese immigrants. Over time, local street food vendors infused these dishes with Indian spices, creating the distinctive Indo-Chinese cuisine we know today. Dalchini, a pan-Indian word for ‘cinnamon’, translates to ‘Chinese bark’, fitting for the first purely Indo-Chinese restaurant in the UK.
