Local Mum Maria Holley left her career in West End musicals behind to concentrate on her other love - fitness. Now you can get her star treatment too!
When Local Mum Maria Holley quit her glittering career in West End musicals to have her children she didn’t decide to put her feet up.
After amazing years working in London’s top theatres, including playing the lead role, Truly Scrumptious, in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at The London Palladium, Maria decided to dedicate herself to her other passion, fitness.
Theatre life
“I do miss being on stage,” says Maria, Local Mum to Liam, nine, and Matthew, seven. “But once I had my sons I knew the hours involved working in the Theatre would make it very complicated being a mum and I would hardly ever see them. So I decided to relaunch my career as a personal trainer as I love fitness and already have years of experience in teaching dance and performing arts.”
Maria, who is currently leading the hugely successful Legs, Bums and Mums fitness classes in our local parks, is a qualified level 3 advanced personal trainer with a specific qualification in pre and postnatal training and as a mother of two understands the challenges of being a new mum. Over the years Maria has trained hundreds of Local Mums to help them get in shape feel better and connect and make a network with other local mums..
“It was great fun working in the Entertainment industry,” says Maria, who has worked with Wayne Sleep, Shirley Bassey, Gary Wilmot and Jason Donovan, both on stage and in Films and TV. “But since I had Matthew I wanted a job that I could do locally, fit in and around school and see the children grow up.”
Making the transition
Maria has also taught theatre and dance at leading performing arts colleges including Mountview Academy for Performing Arts, Guildford School of Acting, Italia Conti and Sylvia Young's, so the transition from entertainment to fitness was easy.
“I love teaching and motivating so it seemed like a logical progression for me to use these skills to help other people achieve their fitness potential,” says Maria.
Maria now works with a number of clients locally, either one-to-one or in a group, and designs tailored training programmes to help people achieve their fitness goals.
HIIT
Legs, Bums and Mums is expanding with a new HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) style class launching this Autumn.
"This class is not just for new mums, but is open to everyone!” explains Maria. "You do not need a buggy to attend, but there are high and low impact options to suit the individual."
Maria is also launching a new service – small group training on a Friday morning for a maximum of four people with or without their children. "You can book in blocks of four weeks either as a group of friends or as an individual,” says Maria. "The smaller classes enable a more bespoke approach to training."
For those that are looking for a totally bespoke approach Maria offers personal training through Maria Holley Fitness. Maria will design a plan based on your individual needs and circumstances to help you achieve your goals. Maria has worked with individuals trying to improve their sporting performance, professional dancers and people just looking to get back into shape. Whatever your goal, there is a plan that can help you.
Maria has launched new classes in Banstead (Lady Neville Recreation Ground); postnatal fitness on a Monday morning at 11:15am and lasts for 45 minutes and women-only (not just post-natal) on Fridays. Maria also runs classes in Carshalton, Wallington, Redhill and Caterham.
